LaLa Wish List: City Love, LA

Welcome to part two of our coast to coast wish lists inspired by this video by Free People. Last time we focused on the easy street style of NYC but this week we’re California dreaming of the laid back, hippie-esc, style of LA, with a touch of edge. We’re channeling the Mama’s and the Papa’s with crochet, fringe, natural stone jewelry, and flat leather sandals. Now if only we could teleport to the beach to warm our mind, body, and soul.

LaLa Wish List: City Love, NYC

Inspired by our love for Free People and our recent video post (see here) that features easy street style from the east and west coasts, we’ve decided to make a wish list for both, starting with New York City. In the midst of January gloom, nothing sounds nicer than layering on flannel and a comfy sweater. This foolproof outfit formula is complete with studded boots, high-waisted jeans, square-framed glasses, and bangles. Ah to live the city life…

LaLa Wish List: It’s that time of year…

There’s nothing quite like Bing Crosby’s voice singing Christmas carols to you on a chilly winter’s eve while sipping a hot cup of cocoa next to the fireplace. While we realize that last sentence sounded more cliche than a Kay Jeweler’s commercial, there’s just something about the holiday season that makes us feel warm and fuzzy inside and we won’t fight it nor deny it. The Christmas season also brings out in us the urge to wear anything red or sparkly so we can dazzle during these few magical weeks. Here are just a few of our favorite holiday picks… crossing our fingers Santa reads Purduelala (we promise we’ve been very good this year).

Red Cape and Brown Sequin Dress: ASOS
Sequin Tank: Nasty Gal
Sequin Sweatshirt, Red Dress, and Gold Sequin Dress: TopShop
Sequin Clutch and Fur Gloves: Zara

Wish List: Winter Brights

With the permanent chill of winter slowly approaching, it’s safe to say that it’s officially big fluffy sweater season and we couldn’t be happier. We’ve found though that when it comes to getting dressed in the morning, we’re in a cold-weather clothes rut and often leave the house in head-to-toe beige, which of course does not fit our personalities. That being said, we’re currently crushing on classic pieces with tailored silhouettes but in the best and brightest shades of the rainbow. Pair these classic pieces with vintage inspired jewelry and a faux animal print scarf and you’re good to go. Life’s better in color, don’t you think?

All pants: Jcrew
All sweaters: ASOS
Scarves: Topshop
Jewelry: Forever 21

Wish List: Falling for Fall

Capes and boots and sweaters OH MY! Although it’s now early September and we’re headed into a lovely Midwest Indian summer, we’re praying for the first morning frost and an acceptable excuse to finally whip out those gorgeous leather boots we’ve been storing up all summer. Yes, we realize when snow-pocalypse hits about early February we’ll be biting our tongues, wishing we never said such a thing, but we just CANNOT wait for fall and all of its festive fashions. We’re ready to trade in our maxi dresses and friendship bracelets for a more sophisticated look filled with sleek tailored capes, impeccably crafted sheer blouses, necklaces in rich jeweled tones, layers of dainty gold rings, and sugar-plum colored lips. Until then we’ll make the most of the sweltering heat but the moment that first leaf falls, game over summer, it’s officially boot season in our eyes.

Cape: Asos
Blouse: Topshop
Shorts: Ruche
Boots: LuLu’s
Necklace: DANNIJO

Wish List: Back to Old School

It’s that time of year again when Target is freshly stocked with a plethora of glossy Lisa Frank folders and chalk full of Crayola Markers and Elmer’s Glue. Ah yes, it’s back to school time. That time of year that use to give us a stomach ache now gives us a reason to update our wardrobes… can you say back to school clothes?! This fall we have our eyes set on the current wave of 70s fashion coming back to grace us in the 2000s and we couldn’t be happier. So join us and channel your inner Charlie’s Angel and rock those bell bottoms and platform clogs. Feathering your hair is also highly encouraged. Hey you know what they always say, go big or go back to the future (too cheesy? our apologies).

Flare Jeans: ASOS
Blouse: Topshop
Shoes: Kurt Geiger
Kimono: Free People
Felt Hat: ASOS
Cuff: Dannijo

Wish List: Bohemian Rhapsody

Summer means three things for us; plenty of sunshine, lots of relaxation, and (quite possibly our favorite part) loads of outdoor concerts and music festivals. We’ll admit though we love just about any event that gives us an excuse to channel our inner free spirit by wearing flower crowns, floaty skirts, and dancing around barefoot in the sunset. This balmy weather is making us crave this bohemian way of dressing more than ever, even if our summer concert ticket fund is at an all time low… ah the pangs of being a broke college student. So whether your musical experience this summer included muddy wellies at Glastonbury or it simply entails dancing around your kitchen to The Decemberists while making mud pies, looking the part has never felt better.

Maxi Skirt – Asos
Boots – Aldo
Crop Top – Top Shop
Cross Body Bag – Free People
Feather Necklace – Aldo
Sunglasses – Forever 21

Wish List: Madame Butterfly

The sun is out, the flowers are blooming, and we’ve traded in our beanies and Doc Martens (see here) for heart-shaped sunglasses and loads of pink lipstick. Our recent sunny disposition has left us craving lemonade, fruity popsicles, and bright summery clothing. We love the sweetness of this butterfly top from Forever21 (not to mention it’s price tag!) especially when unexpectedly paired with bright floral shorts from Top Shop. This quirky combo is made complete with sky-high wedges, a straw bag, coral nails, a ballerina bun, and a skip in your step.

Butterfly Top: Forever 21
Floral Shorts: Top Shop
Wedges: Kurt Geiger
Straw Bag: Top Shop
Lipstick: Revlon
Perfume: Marc Jacobs
Sunglasses: Urban Outfitters
Nail Polish: Essie

Wish List: Smells Like Teen Spirit

We find ourselves unintentionally talking about the unpredictable Indiana weather more than we would like to but sometimes it just messes with our emotions, making us feel like a moody teenager again being picked last for dodge ball in gym class. Sometimes the only thing that can soothe our bipolar tendencies is to roll out of bed, not brush our hair and dress like Courtney Love at a Nirvana concert. Channeling all our angst, we’ve come across these 90s grunge inspired items and can’t get enough of them. So crank up the Smashing Pumpkins and let’s headbang.

Dress: Urban Outfitters
Denim Vest: Top Shop
Doc Martens: Drmartens.com
Beanie: Urban Outfitters
Leather Wrap Bracelets: Banana Republic
Charm Necklaces: Forever 21

LaLa Wish List: Black and Color

We have quite an affinity with black clothing and will admit that about 40% of our wardrobe consists of it, but for good reason; black goes with everything (even more black). The best thing about black clothing though is how much you can accessorize it and create so many different outfits doing so. Our favorite way to accessorize our little black dress is with loads of bangles, a chunky gold necklace, and colorful shoes that are so close to a work of art you feel bad even wearing them on your feet.
