Fall Simple Pleasures

Is there really anything better than fall on a college campus? The only legitimate answer to that question would be puppies and Christmas, just for your information. But nothing puts a smile on our faces quiet like the smell of tailgating food on a Saturday morning, the crunching of orange leaves under our boots, and getting to throw on a sweater to run out the door to class. So we’ve decided to capture in a few photos some of the things we love about this splendid season because let’s be honest, fall is the most wonderful time of the year.

She Walks In Beauty: A Woman’s Journey Through Poems

As the long summer days dragged on, our desperation for den pops, crisp fall morning tailgates and all things black and gold grew so strong that we knew we had to do something to pass the time. So we read. We read everything from the classic verses of Gustave Flaubert, to Sophie Kinsella’s laugh out loud page-turners. We read so much that we swore we could hear the distant train whistles of the Boiler Express calling us back to school.

But of all of the stories that we soaked in, an unlikely book touched us the most. She Walks in Beauty: A Woman’s Journey Through Poems is a collection of various poems compiled by Caroline Kennedy depicting the many stages of a woman’s life. We know what you are thinking… Poetry. Blah. But these poems are not the endless lines of balladry you had to analyze in high school.

Each poem has a little piece of perspective to give to us. Filled with life lessons and wisdom that the poets of past generations wanted to share with the women of the world. It brings what every girl needs- a little piece of mind. It’s amazing when we rediscover how a good book can act like a friend to us, and give us understanding and confidence when we need it most.

As you can tell, we can’t say enough good things about this book. So don’t just take our word for it! Go out and grab yourself a copy. You’ll be raving about it just like us once you do!
